wonderful wonderful aurifil...

i am a big fan of Aurifil are you?
if so read on as there may be a little giveaway at the end of this post...

Aurifil 50wt (the orange one) has been my go to thread of choice ever since i was first introduced to it...particularly number 2600...the perfect shade of grey that goes with everything.
i hadn't tried the other wts but was lucky enough to be sent a few recently to try.

now it would be fair to say that i am a little swayed by how things look. i like to be surrounded by pretty things...what's wrong with that? but they do need to have something to back up the looks and aurifil ticks all those boxes.

first of all not only are the coloured bobbins so bright and fun but they are indeed practical too...easy to grab what you are after without having small print to contend with and believe me at my age, being visually challenged, that is a huge plus.

on testing, 40wt - the green one - proved to be equally delightful and i particularly like the effect of how the slightly heavier thread shows up in quilting stitches.

the grey 28wt is a lovely thread to use for hand piecing. i am a bit heavy handed with hand piecing but no worries about snapping the thread with this one. it also works beautifully for machine quilting, a lovely bold finish.

then there are the threads for sashiko and hand embroidery...
12 wt - the red one - has a lovely feel and pretty sheen (you can see the stitches i did at the top).
and then of course the aurifloss, a 6 strand embroidery floss.
this is one of those times that you can't ignore the prettiness...have you seen the wooden bobbins they are wound on??
but they do stitch like a dream too...

5 different types of thread, over 250 colours, they are the kona of the thread world. you really need to give them a try if you haven't already.

and to help one of you on your way i am giving away this set below of the 4 main threads and i will throw in one of the aurifloss too because they are way too pretty not to share and i am nice like that.

just leave a comment to be with a chance of winning. if you use aurifil already just tell me what your favourite colour is, which weight you prefer or something about it that you like. if you have never tried it just tell me that!

please leave an email where i can contact you if you are a no reply commmenter, should you win.

Good Luck!

  2. Rather new to Aurifil, but started using the other month currently using a variegated one that looks like something from a mardi gras and a sunset, 50# weight. It's lush to work with.

  4. I'm a bit of a novice....not sure which fabrics, threads etc are best for which jobs but am thoroughly enjoying experimenting! I like the thought of a thread with more weight for hand sewing detail on a quilt....and as you say...they look very pretty too :-)

  5. I only just converted to Aurifil before Christmas and have white cream and a grey that's just a bit to dark - I still need to find the perfect lilacy pale grey, I'll have to look for 2400!
I love the way Aurifil doesn't produce as much lint as other threads and disappears into the seam when I'm piecing!

  6. I LOVE this thread and promote it on my blog even though they never give me any for a giveaway! I'm having a giveaway right now too. Stop by! Cheery wave from Bev

  7. I have just started using aurifil for quilt piecing. I would love to try the handwork size. I am impressed by their colors!

  8. I love Aurifil 40 wt - the green spool. Not many people sell the green spools here in the UK so the only spool I've used was an amazing - totally AMAZING - lime green thread (on green spool) - cool! I used it on everything. Yum.

  9. I love aurifil, I usually use the 50 wt color 2021, which is natural white. My machine and I both love this thread!

  10. Yep I'm a grey 2400 girl as well, or maybe throw in a little 2024 if I want to mix things up a bit. I think I need some more colour in my life!

  11. I've never used Aurifil, but have seen it at various shows and thought I must try it some time….maybe I'll be lucky!

  12. I have the grey 2400 and love it as it is so versatile. If I had a pot of money I would try different weights and colours. As I don't, I am crossing everything in the hope of winning your giveaway. Di x

  13. I love aurifil. I use 50wt for my piecing and my quilting (most of the time). I like their whites 2021 and 2024 as well as their light gray (I don't remember the number)

  16. I've been using Aurifil for about a year now - love it. I also use a grey for most of my piecing, can't remember which number. I use 40 wt when I really want the quilting to stand out. I would love to try the other weights, especially the embroidery floss.

  17. I've never been sure what threads to use for my quilts etc - will definitely need to give these a try!

  18. I pretty much stitch everything with 50wt 2021 off-white, but the heavier weights are definitely great for quilting, I have used the 12wt to machine quilt and it looks brilliant, even though you only get about 5m on a bobbin!.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I use 2600 (but it could be 2400) which must be the same as your favourite grey as it goes with everything! I think I'm using the 50 wt one, but I love it because it lasts forever!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I have never tried it busy am busting too given how everyone raves about it. I am adding a spool to my next order to give it a go

  21. I found you via IG. I love Aurifil and my machine loves Aurifil as well. One spool does last a long time. I mainly use #2325/50 wt, a light tan for all my piecing. My friend uses the same gray you do, #2400 for all her piecing. I didn't know there was Aurifloss. I'm so excited to give it a try as I have several embroidery projects going on.

Thank you and Aurifil for a super giveaway and a chance to win.

  24. Those threads look so pretty! I haven't tried Aurifil yet, but because I've read so many good things about it, I've just got a reel of 50wt white in to try out.

  28. I've not been sewing long enough to have a huge thread stash, but I bought a variegated spool (code 4666) of 28 weight to hand-quilt one I made as a pre-birth present for my niece, and I really liked the feel of it. I keep meaning to try it for piecing too. Thanks for the chance to win some.

  33. I have only used the 50wt white thus far and I am converted. I have not used any of the other weights yet but I would love to. As my supply of other threads run out I am going to replace them with Aurifil. Aurifil does not separate, or split and break other brands, and it runs so smoothly through my machine unlike other brands.
Thank you for the opportunity to win this amazing prize.

Thank you so much for the chance of winning more Aurifil!

  44. When I first started sewing I bought a job lot of threads from ebay just so I had a full range of colours to play with (if I had to go and colour match threads at the haberdashery shop every time I started a project I would never have got anything done!) However as I sew more I can see how cheap those threads really are (twisting, breaking, fluffing), and now as I replace the colours I use a lot I am using better quality thread - although I haven't seen aurifil before (our little shop doesn't stock it). Would love to try it though!

  51. I've been using Aurifil 50wt for all my piecing and quilting. The bobbin thread seems to last forever! Which is great when machine quilting...not more surprises & re-do's of quilting! And my machine stays cleaner than when using other threads...a real plus! Thanks for the chance some more!

  52. My Janome loves Aurifil 2000!

  53. I have been using Aurifil for several years now but only for machine piecing. I've always used a neutral beige (the # excapes me) & always try to keep a good supply of that. I have so much of the very fine Mettler for hand applique so that'll probably last for a very long time. Thanks for the giveaway!

  54. A virtual rainbow of favorite colors. I tend for the off-white and cream.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I first used aurifil 50 wt when I quilted my daughters wedding quilt on a long arm 6 years ago and have been hooked ever since. I love the look of the 50wt (light but visible without overpowering the quilt) and it handles so beautifully. I like the 50wt for everything so much that I have not tried the other weights. I used the 50wt for everything.
I should expand my experience and experiment with the others.

  57. I've loved Aurafil since I first used it 6 or 7 years ago. I use orange spool 50wt for piecing and sometimes quilting. The 40wt is wonderful for quilting. The colors are fabulous, from bold and bright to a palate of neutrals that are almost invisible.

  63. I love the red spool MT 50 Mako12. I am hand appliquéing a Sue Spargo Folk Art Quit, and this is my go to thread for attaching the pieces to the background. I have always loved #8 pearl cotton, but the Aurifil is lighter, and I use it as 2 strands of embroidery floss. I am in need of some true blues, light and dark, purple, pink, and light yellow. Will go to this web site.

  139. I am an Aurifil junky. I have lots of colors, but I am on a mission to collect them all. I love the 50 wt spools for machine quilting, especially the black and all the grays. Other favorites are the variations of pink and turquiose. Lovely color choices and such a high quality product. Plus I have modified my thread rack to hold the spool and bobbin together - now I just need to fill it. Pick me!
